different anon here. western saddles definitely have trees, and they come in different widths just like English saddles do. you can get quarter horse bars, semi-quarter horse bars, saddles that are designed specially to fit Arabians, and saddles that are designed specially to fit gaited horses.
Me:

How come they get put on the floor as they do?  Like with normal saddles you have to be careful when carrying and putting down so as to not damage the tree but whenever I see western saddles put down they just get dropped.. Is this just careless and wrong?  I would have thought that the tree would get damaged?

When I say ‘whenever I see’ I mean on the tv, I am in the UK and have never actually seen a western saddle in use! :P
